What is Aadhaar?

Aadhaar is a free helpline for the destitute mentally ill people implemented by Altruist in the city of Ahmedabad in the year 2011 to rescue them from the roads, provide them with security and treatment so that they could get cured and re-unite them with their families.

Vadodara

Service Extended

Aadhaar works jointly with the Hospital for Mental Health, Ahmedabad and Vadodara, and the Commissioner of City Police of both these cities, strictly adhering to the Mental Health Care Act 2017.

The only-one of its kind project in the country

‘Aadhaar’ involves three key stakeholders: Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, Ahmedabad & Vadodara city police (public law enforcement agency), the public healthcare provider (Hospitals for Mental Health), and The Altruist (a social organization).

The links between these three facets ensure that the individual is able to be efficiently rescued from the streets, provided with care, treatment, security, and rehabilitation with the eventual goal of returning the individual to their family and community.
